DKDM’s percussion professor Gert Mortensen recently appeared on China Central Television (CCTV) in a series of broadcastings on rehearsal work with the orchestra “Panda Banda”. The orchestra, named after China’s national animal, consists of students from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where Gert Mortensen held a master class in the spring.
The broadcastings “Mo Shu Shu”, which means Uncle Mortensen in Chinese, showed both Gert Mortensen’s orchestra rehearsals of different works from Rossini and Brahms to Michael Jackson under the musical theme “the survival of the animal and our planet” and at the same time showed the professor’s daily work in the percussion department at DKDM. Moreover parts of DKDM’s presentation video were shown and a translator translated it into Chinese.
The extensive media coverage on national television in China has resulted in several engagements, among other things Beijing Zoo, World Championship in Ice Sculpture as well a series of New Year concerts on 7th to 9th January in China’s largest concert house, China National Center of the Performing Arts. The orchestra has already released a DVD and a CD is on its way
